Kevin's Training

Mackinnon Training News -- September

It's hard to know where to start. Once again, so many athletes from the group have simply had an amazing summer. It would be impossible to go through everyone’s results this year, but here are a few hilights, anyway:

Lisa Bentley has once again convinced me that she is one of the best athletes in the province. With one of the toughest schedules I have seen any pro athlete attempt, a busy teaching schedule, (I know, Club Ed should be a breeze, but I guess those teachers do work between PD days!) she still managed all this (to name just a few results):

How about Lori Bowden’s great season to date (Ironman still to come!) Despite having two 'almost' stress fractures, she still managed a 10th overall at the incredibly competitve Ironman Germany. She just finished second at an Ironman distance duathlon in Japan, too.

Jeff Krar put together a great July. After finishing 9th overall at Gulf Coast in May, Jeff built through the season to finish in 10th at the Toronto International, and win the Cornerbrook Triathlon outright

Joe Rizzi won the Elliot Lake triathlon, the highlight to an excellent summer of racing.

Doug Kormos easily cruised to a national team spot in Leamington.

One of the highlights for me this summer was to see Gord Brockie and Sandra Bowden qualify for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii. Congrats you two!

Ken and Margaret Beswitherick journeyed down from North Bay to qualify for the national team.

Ian Stuart has been tearing up his age-group in the PC series this summer. He qualified for the world’s once again, and has been a regular on the podium this summer.

Joel Cash, despite a leg injury, has also done well in his age-group in the sprint series. Watch out for him once he gets completely healthy.

Vince Barbee put together the quadrathlon of the year — a second place in his age-group half ironman in Collingwood, followed by a full night playing French Horn for Phantom of the Opera.

Mary Jo McCarthy won her age-group at the Collingwood sprint triathlon.

Mike Siggsworth qualified for the national team at the national championships in Fort McMurray, just two weeks after badly injuring his knee in Leamington!

Marion Johnson finished the half ironman duathlon in Orillia in 5:30. A great time. A phenomenal time considering she is in her first year of duathlons!

Matt Richardson is right up there in the PC junior standings. He also finished 2nd at the Sarnia triathlon.

Andy Lubczynski started the summer with a bang, had a tough June, but was back racing fast in August. He just missed a national team spot in Welland in the incredibly competitive 30-34 age-group.

Speaking of that age-group, Graham Fraser has been quietly racing away in sprint races this summer. Once again, he is showing everyone he really can race with his second overall in the Mrs. T’s Chicago Sprint.

Congrats to everyone!
