Kevin's Training

Mackinnon Training News -- December

It was fast, it was intense, but once Sean Cameron Mackinnon decided to make his move, there was no holding back as the 8 pound 14 ounce Hamilton resident came into the world in dramatic style.

Six days after his official due date, Sean's mother, Sharon, was getting a little anxious awaiting the imminent arrival. After a false alarm the previous Tuesday, Sharon remained almost 5cm dilated for four days. It was with much anticipation, then, that Sharon signaled to her husband that labor was beginning at about 8PM, Friday November 24.

Extricating himself from the phone, and his daughter from her Sesame Street CD-ROM, Kevin managed to get Sharon to the hospital by 8:30PM, where they met Mary, Patti and Heidi, the three midwives who would be refereeing the evenings events.

There was very little time to set out the rules -- in no time at all Sharon was quick to point out that that there was no tiny child on the way. Within minutes (33 to be exact!) Sean was born -- almost nine pounds and a full 22.5 inches.

"Basketball?" was all Kevin could say upon seeing the height and weight of his new son.

Mom, Dad and child were all back home three hours after the birth -- yet another testament to Sharon's incredible ability to recover quickly!

The reaction from the other Mackinnon child, Saint Chelsea, has been predictable. Unlike her father, who said upon seeing his new sister: "It's a nice baby, when is it going back?" Chelsea has been the model big sister. Hugs and strokes are routine, and she is always first on hand when it is change or bath time.

Kevin is certain the child has none of his genes.

The new family continues to work together quite happily. A five day bout with mastitis floored Sharon (OK, four days of bed rest, not floor rest, but you know what I mean), but she has since bounced back, is working on her second “SuperMom” award, and should be running again soon! More details to follow in the new year.

Training over the holidays:

The Tuesday night workout won’t be happening on December 26. (Well, I’m up for it, but I have moved the venue to Sarnia!)

During that week, I have left people’s training programs open. It is a busy time of year, and I am quite happy to see everyone take a bit of a break, and do a few fun workouts to stay in shape. If you want specific workouts for that week, let me know.

Indoor workouts begin January 2, 1996, at York University.
Food, Running, Shopping
Sean is here!!
Holiday Brunch:

Join us on Sunday, December 17 for a fun filled morning of running, shopping and eating. Say what?

Here's how it will work:

Sunday morning, at 9:30AM, the group will leave from the Tech Shop, 2376 Yonge Street (one block north of Eglington) for a fun run. After that, Elaine McCrae and the rest of the "Tech Shop Team" have graciously agreed to let us run wild through the store, buying everything and anything at a discounted rate. (Elaine will let us know what that is on Sunday!) There are showers at the store, so once we have finished the running and the shopping, the next stop will be Bregmans Restaurant for food! The reservation is for 12 noon.

Please let me know if you will be able to attend! Hope to see you out there!.
