A Summer Trip with Dad
My dad and I went to Moab, Utah for the summer about three years ago.
We went to: Delicate Arch, Islands in the Sky, The White Rim Trail, up Shafer Switch Backs,
to the dinosaur foot prints, and several other places that were fantastic! My dad and
I were gone for four days and I had the most fun ever.
My dad and myself went to over 17 states altogether and one province in Canada.
By Alex
Dear Alex, I would have loved to go on a trip
like that. I bet you had a terrific time and saw lots of amazing sites.

My Vacation to New Zealand
I went to New Zealand for last winter vacation. In the flight from Bolivia (where I live)
to New Zealand took 13 hours. Can you imagine! I was mainly sleeping. I got to meet my Grandma,
Granny Jenny. I also got to meet my cousins for the first time, they were nothing like I
imagined. Nina is 13, a tomboy girl, with a good sense of humour. Colin is 15, he already
has a job, has really curly red hair, and at last Julie, a 6 year old that is cute, but talks
to much and really loud. (I think she's in love with my brother, who was also 6.) We mainly
travelled around New Zealand, we went to the Whakarewarewa Thermal Mud Pools. Ewww. We also
went to Napier where we rented a comftable tiny house, that supossed to have a beach in front
of it. A lady owned it. My mom got completly furious when she saw the rocky beach that you
couldn't even swim in. It was funny how my mom and the woman quarelled and in the end they
became sort of friends. When we went to the beach it was warm, and really salty. We also
went to this restaurant that was a super cool bar type and we had good homemade pizza. We
also went indoor climbing. That was sooo fun. I think it's my favorite sport, except soccer.
Then we went to the most boring part of the trip. My parents wanted to buy a property.
We spent hours driving to look at dry lands with some view. Me and my brother were completey
bored. We returned to our Grandma's and cousins place and we had fun for a few days to recover
from the trip. We swam in my Grandma's private swimming pool, we rode my cousins horses,
we went for walks, we played with Maisy and Daisy, two twin dogs, and we hung out. On x-mas,
my Grandma made a delicious dinner, and I had lots of nice presents. The last days we went
to my cousins house on the beach, the beach was nice, but the house was horrible. It was full
of dust and cobwebs and dirtiness, and I'm allergic to anything to do with dirtiness. I had a
great vacation, and I hope to go back to New Zealand and have another wonderful time.
By Leela
Dear Leela, You really are a world class traveller. Your trip to New Zealand seemed to be very
exciting. You are a very good writer and should be proud of your story. Your pal, Buddy
Lost Spanky (Golden Retriever)
I searched and searched,"Mom... I still can't find Spanky!". I had just woke up and today
was the National Dog show in NYC! Spanky just couldn't be gone on a day like this!!! With his
long fluffy fur and shiny blue eyes, he just had to win! I looked everywhere and......... wait,
I never checked his favorite blue rug. He always curls up on his favorite blue rug so he just
had to be there! " Never mind Mom, I know exactly where he's at!". I rushed like a cheetah
to the backyard turned to his rug and ..... " Oooh Noo." I sat there weeping over the flower
beds where Spanky.. well used to be. I couldn't believe he would just run away like this.
I've always been so nice to him ,I even once well don't tell anybody, but I curled up and
slept by him on his blue rug while it was raining outside just to make him feel better. I
glanced at my watch welp only 1:00 ........ WAIT 1:00!!! The National dog show was at 3:00!!
I scampered inside to the kitchen got out my markers and started writing:
"Lost Spanky (Golden Retriever)!"
PLEASE find this dog! Golden retriever long fluffy fur and shiny blue eyes, boy dog. If
you call his name like this,"Ssssspanky" he'll come. If it's 3:00 please bring him to The
National dog show in NYC Wall st. 8th Avenue West at the Pet theatre. I'll be in the 4th room
waiting. -Me
I ran to our copy room where Mom was at. " What are you doing?" Mom said.
I told her the whole story. She was worried that she would never find Spanky, but I
showed her the notices and said it would be ok. I set off on my roller skates and headed for
Lilas Ice Cream shop. Everyone would see the notices there. I also went to the Colala
Restraunt and lots of other places where people would see my posted notes. I looked at my
watch, 2:30 oh man! After I was done with my last note I raced home on my rollerskates
home. When I first walked in the door Mom called out," Honey, it's almost time for the
Dog Show!" "I know." I called out soberly. I put on my best clothes and headed out the door.
Mom drove me over and when we got there we walked into the Dog Theatre . She helped me calm
down and we walked into room # 4 pretending to be with Spanky. I cried every once and a while,
but Mom always made me feel better. "Woof!" oh it couldn't be , I turned around there was a
lady in a dress walking a dog that looked like Spanky. Oh boy now I must be seeing things!
I called his name just to make sure I wasn't just seeing things "Sssspanky!" "Woof!" he
jumped on me and started licking me. "I knew you'd recognize him!" said the lady that was
walking Spanky. "You mean .. you're not a mirage??" I asked. " Why no of course n... no
I'm not a mirage ." "Thank you!!" I threw my arms around her , "Oh you're welcome!"

Do Your Homework
It was Friday, Abe was scared. He had not done his homework. His teacher was mad. He had to stay after school and miss soccer.
It was soccer tryouts. But luckily it rained. Except the day after, when the raindate tryouts were held, he didn't do his homework again! His teacher was furious. It stayed sunny and Abe learned, always do your homework.

Lost in Disney World
One hot summer day, Sherry and her kids went to Disney World. This was their first time there. They were so excited. The kids were yelling at one another, "Hurry up! Let's go!" They were going to get something to eat. Sherry asked, "What would you like to eat?"
The kids started talking at the same time. Jessica said, "I want some cotton candy."
Tommy said, "I want a hot dog."
Dominique said, "I want two bags of chips to eat."
Sherry said, "Let's go get some food."
Dominique said, " Mom, can I go to the castle?"
"No, we have to go get our food first." said Sherry.
"Uh, oh! Jessica has gone to the castle!" cried Dominique.
Sherry and her kids went to look for Jessica. When they got to the castle, they found Jessica. It was easy to find her at the castle. " Do not go away from me again, okay." said Sherry.
"I will stay with you," said Jessica. So Sherry and her kids went on the rides and went with Mickey to see Minnie Mouse. They had fun at Disney World and Jessica did not get lost again in Disney World.
By Shaliss
I loved your story about Disney World, Shaliss. I'm glad Jessica did not get lost again. We should all stay together. Your friend, Buddy.
Sarah's Baby
One spring day, Sarah took her kids to the park. Jason Park was in Lexington, Kentucky. Flowers were blooming, people were cooking, dogs were barking and kids were yelling. There were picnic tables, slides, swings, monkey bars, and grills. Sarah asked Brook, "Will you please take Tom and Brittany to play. "OK, Mom." said Brook.
Sarah was unpacking their stuff. She brought turkey, ham, bread, chips, and drinks. She set everything on the table and poured their drinks. Then Sarah yelled for the kids. The kids said, " We are coming." Sarah was having pains. "Hey, kids!" Sarah said. "Please call 911." Brittany and Brooke went to the store and called 911.
Brittany called 911. "My mom is having a hard time getting to the hospital and she needs help." The operator asked, "Where is your mom?" Brittany said, "She is at Jason Park." "OK, we are on our way." said the operator. They ran back to their mom and said, "They are on their way."
The ambulance arrived. They came and got Sarah. Sarah asked, "When we get to the hospital, am I going to have my baby?" The EMT said, " Yes, you are going to have your baby when we get to the hospital." On the way to the hospital, they had a flat tire. They called the EMS. The EMT said, "Hi, this is the EMT #106 and we need your help." The EMS chief said, "Why?" The EMS said, "We have a flat tire." The EMS chief said, "I'm on my way." The second ambulance came and got them. They took Sarah to the hospital and she had her baby. It was a boy.
By Tiffany
How exciting, Tiffany. We should be thankful that the EMT's are there to help us. Your pal, Buddy.
My Mom
Do you have a special mom? I do. Her name is Lori and she is my mother. I remember when my papaw was in the hospital. He was shaking and was really sick. The doctors thought he was going to die. I felt sad and frightened. I didn't want him to die because he is my favorite papaw. After I saw my papaw my mom took me in to the hallway. My mom said it would be all right. He was not going to die. My mom is special because she makes me happy when I am sad.
I like to go out to eat with my mom. She takes me to McDonalds. I get a hamburger and French Fries in my kid's meal with a toy. She lets me play in the toys outside. I also like to go to Burger King. I get a hamburger in my kid's meal with a toy, too. We eat outside because it is hot inside. I like to feed the birds there because they are hungry. I always have fun when I go out to eat with my mom.
My mom is silly. She is silly because she tells me funny jokes and because she makes funny faces. My mom is silly when she dances with me. I have fun with my mom when she is silly.
I like to go and do things together with my mom. My mom took me shopping at the mall. I got a teddy bear. She took me to the toys. Then she took me out to eat at the mall. I ate some fries and got a pop with them. My mom was fun because she took me to the silly toys that talk to you. She also took me to the clothes store and I got some pants and a shirt. I really enjoy being with my mom.
My mom is special because she plays with me. She talks to me about everything that we do together. We play Checkers and Monopoly together. We play "who can be the quietest". She talks to me and I laugh. Even though she listens to crazy music, I still love her.
By Tiffany
Tiffany, thank you for sending me your memoir. You are becoming a very good writer. I can see why your mom is so special and you love her very much. I am very proud of you. Your friend, Buddy.
My Granny
Do you have a special grandmother? Yes, I have a special granny. My grandmother takes me to the grocery store. One day she gave me money to buy food for us to eat for dinner and breakfast. My granny said, "You can get more food." I said, "Okay I will get some ice cream." I felt really joyful. I got chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream. We walked back home and ate the ice cream together. I can always count on my granny to be nice to me.
I like to go out and eat with my granny. We go to eat at Taco Bell. I have fun at Taco Bell because I get a toy with my food. My granny took me to McDonalds to eat. It was cold outside so we ate inside. I played in the balls and a scary thing. I saw two bees in the scary thing. I had fun. I enjoy going out to eat with my granny.
My granny is funny. She tickles me in my stomach. My granny makes me laugh when I talk to her. She made me laugh one time because I had ice
cream on my face. I was laughing because she had ice cream on her face too. I had fun with my granny and she always makes me laugh.
I like to do different things with my granny. We like to play Monopoly Jr., Game Boy, and Go Fish. I laugh and have fun with my granny. We also like to cook together. Granny taught me how to cook noodles and spaghetti. Granny helped me learn how to bake cookies, brownies and a cake. I love to do stuff with my granny.
My granny is special because she does things for me. She cooks for me. When my dad came over to visit with us he ate with us. We went to the mall to get some clothes for me and I got a game to play with. When we got back home my granny was cooking dinner for us. We ate tuna fish and hot chips for dinner. My granny also likes to play in the snow with me. She made an igloo for me to play inside of it. We have fun together. Sometimes my granny plays dolls with me. She plays with in my room with my playhouse. I have eight baby dolls. Sometimes my granny does not want to play with me because she is not feeling good but I still love her.
By Shaliss
Hi Shaliss. I really liked reading your memoir about your granny. She is a very special person and I see why you love her very much. Thanks for writing me your memoir. You a becoming a great writer and I'm very proud of you. Your pal, Buddy.

Christmas Night
One foggy Christmas eve a little girl named Sam was fast asleep in her bed waiting for Santa to come. Though she was fast asleep she could hear Santa on the roof and suddenly she heard a noise like a thump outside. "It must be Santa," she thought. "Oh no," she said to her self quietly, "he must be in trouble. I better go help him."
So she ran outside forgetting she was wearing her P.J's... She saw Santa trying to get up so she helped him inside and got him some hot cocoa. It took her awhile because she was only 5 and couldn't reach the cups!!! After Santa was all better he told her if she went right to bed she would get something realy special in the morning. So she said good night and went to bed.
In the morning she woke up and ran down stairs and saw that there were 2 little puppies under the tree. She was very happy with her new puppies.

Buddy Saves the Day
Hi I'm Bud! I'm a bearded collie and have I got a story for you! Well it all started when I was out on a walk with my owner, who is a police officer, when his cell phone started ringing. "Hello, Sergent Bill here. Yes, I see, I'll be right there." He hung up. "Well Bud it looks like they need me immediately at the station. We'll have postpone this walk until later. For now you have to come to the station with me."
So we walked to the station which was five blocks away and he tied me up outside. "Stay Bud," was all he said before walking inside the three story brick building. After about 30 minutes I found a old bone in a nearby trash can. I tore, shredded and chewed that thing for 45 minutes, then fell asleep. Soon after I heard my owner's footsteps coming down the stone steps of the station and I sat up immediately. He looked stressed out and worried. "Let's go Bud," he said, and we walked away. We sat on a park bench and he started talking to me." "There's a man loose, Ol' Black Jinx. He always seems to get out of jail one way or another. I need to catch him, today if I can. Jim Been has gotten all the clues but needs me to track him down. I need you to help me. If I don't get him soon he's going to hurt someone." He sighed uncomfortably and took out a piece of cloth.
"This was found on the jail bars right after he got out."
He put it down to the ground so I could smell it. I took a BIG whiff and he lead me to a old run down neighborhood. "This is where he was last seen," he told me. I took one more smell of the cloth and then he took me off my leash and I started sniffing around. Almost 10 minutes later I caught his scent. I started running, following it, slowing down at places. Finally I came to a old rotting wood shack. I licked my owner's hand to let him now this was it. We walked where no one could hear us and he called the station.
"Hi Boss, this is Bill. I've found him. Yes, I'm at the old Hudson building area behind the abandoned apartment building. Come immediately. Thank you. Bye." He hung up.
